Working with real art at Year 1.

Let's have a look to the following pictures, and talk a bit with your Thinking Twin.

  • Do you know which picture is this? Can you give it a title?
  • Who is this person? Do you think is someone from our days or it lived in the past?

The men is a famous painter who lived around 1650 and the picture is "Las Meninas", one of his most famous paintings, now you can see it at Museo del Prado in Madrid.

The following video explain you a bit more about it. Try to get at least one idea from it.

What have you learnt about the picture?

WOULD YOU LIKE TO BECOME AN ARTIST LIKE VELAZQUEZ?

In the following worksheet you will create your own desing for the Meninas, using small pieces of paper.

Do you know that in Madrid some artists have updated the Meninas around the streets?

Let's try to do your own design in the dress of La Menina.

Working with Geometry at Arts & Crafts lesson.

Along during different lessons in Arts & Crafts we are going to work in order to learn different geometrical shapes.

LESSON 1.

Today we are going to work with a very famous artist called Mondrian. He has a very famous picture called "Composición en rojo, negro, amarillo y azul", he painted this picture on 1921.

This time you will try to reproduce this picture into your drawing block, for that your teacher will give you different black stripes so you can stick in the way you prefer, creating these squares you can look on the original picture. Then feel free to colour it with red, white, yellow and black.

REMEMBER: You are going to create the picture you are not going to copy.

LESSON 2:

Today we are going to become artist as Mondrian was in the past. Do you remember the characteristics of the picture we were working on the last lesson?

  • Squares, with different sizes.
  • Black lines.
  • Yellow, black, blue and white on it.
So this time you are going to work with you THINKING TWIN or your COOPERATIVE GROUP. We are going to colour different shapes, objects, things, parts of the body, animals, etc... Using the same technique as Mondrian do.
  • With your thinking twin let's tal about what each other wants to draw. It could be your partner face, your famourite animal, your favourite toy....
  • Start drawing this picture into your drawing block. Please try to make it big enough using the whole sapce you have it.
  • Then take your ruler and start drawing lines to cut it into squares.
  • Let's colour it using Mondrian Technique.
Here you can have really good examples about how to do it.

LESSON 4:

Today we are going to play a bit and work with a game called TANGRAM. It is a game formed by different geometrical shapes you can join and move in order to create different final products. so along this lesson you are going to create you own tangram and play with you THINKING TWIN OR COOPERATIVE GROUP.

First of all you are going to have a tangram to colour like you prefer, it doesn't matter the colours you have to do it with your favourite ones.

Once you have finished you will cut, please be careful, do it calmly you are not in a hurry.

With you THINKING TWIN or your COOPERATIVE GROUP you can start practising any one of the following objects. Maybe your teacher will give you a copy so you can have in your group. All the group will practise the same, so you can help one to each other.

At the end, let's choose one of it and create it into your drawing block. If you want you can also decorate it with a landscape.

LESSON 5:

We are going to do a test. First of all we are going to remind which are the basic geometrical shapes

Now with your THINKING TWIN or your COOPERATIVE GROUP you are going to complete the following document.

Now it would be time to use these tips to create your own landscape picture. Try to do your best, there are different options, you can draw and colour or you can draw the shapes in other coloured papers and then cut them and stick into the drawing block.

Diseñando prototipos (Tarea Arts & Crafts) Proyecto Integrado 5ºEP

Aim of the moment 3: Diseñar un contenedor para reciclar desde la creatividad y el cuidado del medio ambiente en su fase de producción.

STEP 1: Let's organize your Arts & Craft block. In the sheet you need to divide it leaving 2 parts of it to draw the picture and 1 part of it two write about the product.

STEP 2: Start with your prototype. You have 30 minutes for it. And it should follow the following ideas:

  • It should be something to use  in the houses.
  • It should promote recycling at least (glass, paper, plastic and organic things)
  • It shouldn't be very expensive.
  • You should use as many recycled materials as you can.
  • It should be functional.
  • It should be creative and original.

STEP 3: In the other part you have to write about the materials you will use to produce it and the cost it will have in a shop.  Also a sentences to promote it (like a slogan). (You will have ten minutes)

When you finish use the Ipad to take a photo of your work (it will be very useful for you to upload into the final post in the portfolio)

STEP 4: Time for the contest. Take a paper with a number and place your worksheet with that number on it.
Everybody will vote two of them, by written the two numbers in a paper and give it to the teacher.

The five most voted will take part in the final contest through a voting using EDMODO.

Mission 1: Learning about STOPMOTION and ROLES in the Group.

Along this first mission you will learn a lot about:
  • What Stopmotion is.
  • What the different roles in a group are.

What is the aim of the mission? You have to create a Google Drive Presentation with 10 questions about Stopmotion.

As you know every presentation should have:
  • A cover with a title and the authors.
  • Each question will have two slides: one with the questions and four possible answers and the second one with the correct answer.
Here you can see some links with information about StopMotion which can help you to create your presentation and your quizz. Please let's also have a look to the next video about how can the Stopmotion help you with your creativity.

Once you finish with the presentation (You have 20 minutes) we will play. The winner group will have a point for GROUP WORKING at Classdojo

We are also going to reflex on the different roles you can take in your group. There are five and each day you will change but for this you will need to know very clearly what your responsabilities are.

We are going to do a THINKING ROUTINE to discover what the responsibilies are and how do you see them. We are going to use QUICK THINK / QUICK DRAW. So remember using this graphic organizer and the following document you will write the name of the role and its responsibilies and draw a quick picture about this role.

GRAPHIC ORGANIZER

Once you have finish this mission you have three important task to do before continue with mission number two:
  • Start with your learning diary.
      • Let's open a Google Drive Document.
      • Write the title of the project FILM CREATOR
      • Write the date.
      • Answer these questions:
          • Three things I have learnt.
          • How do I learn these things?
          • Do I want to learn more about something? What?
          • What can I improve for the next mission?
  • Evaluate your mates. We will have a ranking (like in videogames) so you as a group will have 50 points in each mission and you can distribute among your partners like you want. Let's communicate to the teacher. You can see how the ranking is going in this document. The winner will have a special prize at the end of the project.
  • Present all your task to your teacher for your badge. If everything is correct you will have a badge to show you are ready to start with STOPMOTION at ClassBadges

Mission 2: Let's fly with your imagination.

Along this second mission you will:
  • Desing what the topic or the common thread of your Stopmotion Film will be. You will do this using a technic to work with your group creativity.

We are going to create the main lines about what you and your group want of you Stopmotion Film. We are going to think in groups to achive your best.

As you know in all the thinking and design processes there are two big moments:
  1. Divergent Moment: Your imagination and creativity can fly. Please don't stop it and take notes about everything you are thinking on.
  2. Convergent Moment: you will show your thinking notes to your mates and in the whole group you will decide how to articulate everything to create a final product.

We will use a graphic organizer to do these two processes. Each member of the group will have a piece of paper of it.
  • You will have 15 minutes to create your own story. Please write down notes in your piece of paper.
  • The group will have 20 minutes to achieve an agreement using the notes that everybody wrote in the previous activity. Please write it down in the circle of the graphic organizer.

Once you have finish this mission you have three important task to do before continue with mission number three:
  • Start with your learning diary.
    • Let's open the  Google Drive Document in which you started the Leaning Diary the previous mission.
    • Write the date.
    • Answer these questions:
      • Three things I have learnt.
      • How do I learn these things?
      • Do I want to learn more about something? What?
      • What can I improve for the next mission?
  • Evaluate your mates. Let's update the ranking of our game. Remember the  group will has 50 points in each mission and you can distribute among your partners like you want. Let's communicate to the teacher.
This mission has a Special Bonus of 5 points to each member of the group is the group is able to include in the final agreement something of each partners ideas.

You can see how the ranking is going in this document. The winner will have a special prize at the end of the project.

  • Present all your tasks to your teacher for your badge. If everything is correct you will have a badge to show you are A CREATIVE PERSON at ClassBadges

Making animals with geometrical shapes (Arts & Crafts, Kindergarten)

On this Arts & Crafts lesson we are going to be artists, our goal today is to create a picture using geometrical shapes.
We start with an oral revision about what we have learn about animals (domestic animals and wild ones; which animals fly, which one walk o swim; the parts of their body: tail, ears, ..... ). This will help the student to decide which animal will they create.
We also need to review what the rules on a group are, above all the respect for other people's ideas or work. It is very important to get an agreement with all the group about the final product.

Students, divided into team, play and design with the shapes until they get the agreement about the animal they want to create. Then they will stick the different shapes and they will use pencils and crayons to add the characteristics which will help to define the designed animal.

Now the animals will be part of a picture. As a picture it will need a title, it is the moment to agree again about this issue. They will write in both languages: English and Spanish.
By the end, as a really good artists they have to signed their pictures.

A winter landscape (Arts & Crafts - Kindergarten)

Last week we finished our topic of winter in the two classes of 5 year-old students. The class teacher (spanish one) and I decided to create a poster done by the students about winter landscapes. We thought it would be great to do it like if it was modern art.

Each group of students have to use four different techniques:

1. Colour all the piece of paper with black wax crayon and then they could draw the snowflakes in two ways or using white wax crayon or scrachinig it with a toothstick.

2. Colour the background with a black crayon and then they stick small pieces of cotton as if they were snowflakes.

3. On a white piece of paper the stick small cuttings of black tissue paper, the small white spaces they leave among the black one simulated the snowflakes.

4. On a black pieces of cartuline we put drops of paint and they extend it with a toothstick.

Here you can see the final product.
